The name of the blog pays tribute to Saint Arnold, the patron saint of brewers.   During his life Saint Arnold encouraged people to drink beer, because it was safer to drink at the time than the untreated water.

When Saint Arnold died, his patrons took  his body to his final resting place in Metz, France. During the patron’s travels, they stopped to rest in the town of Champiguelles. While there they decided to have a beer and went to the local watering hole. To their dismay, the inn keeper had only one mug left. So the patrons had to share the mug. The mug never ran dry and the patrons believed it to be  a miracle.

Some people search for the Holy Grail, the cup of life. I search for Saint Arnold’s Mug, the bottomless mug of beer, the ultimate beer experience . This search takes “The Mug of Saint Arnold” to many bars, cooking with beer recipes, breweries, home brewing and many different kinds of beer, all in search for great beer experiences. This blog chronicles the journey.

Information on Saint Arnold was found at http://www.beerchurch.com/Default.aspx?tabid=1888.
